Ranthambhore,
in the state of Rajasthan, is one of the smallest Project Tiger reserves. It's
name comes from the vast fort that stands in the middle of the forest. The name
Ranthambore is derived from two hills in the area, Ran and Thanbhor.Ranthambhor

The
dry Deciduous forests of the ancient Aravalli range, are excellent tiger country
and Sariska, was once the royal reserve of the rulers of Alwa''. Declared a
sanctuary in 1955, it became a Tiger Reserve in 1979 under Project Tiger Herds
of sambar, chital, nilgai and sounders of wild boar - the prey population for
predators like the tiger and leopard, roam the 765.80 sq km Reserve.

river, just 300 kms. northeast of Delhi in the foothills of the Himalayas is
the Corbett National Park. Established initially as Hailey National Park on
August 8, 1936, in honour of Sir Malcolm Hailey, then governor of the United
Provinces, the name was changed to Ramganga National Park in 1952.

Named
after the river that flows nearby, Pench was declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in
1983, though it had been declared a notified area in 1972. Today, the park is
the 19th Tiger Reserve in the country and takes pride in its tigers and other
wildlife. The total area under the Pench Tiger Reserve comes to about 758 km,
out of which a core area of 299 sq km is the National Park and 464 km the buffer

preserve for Maharaja Suraj Mull of Bharatpur. He transformed the shallow depression
